Itmenaan Estate is a fairytale getaway in a peaceful setting in the Kumaon Himalayas. The 10-acre estate includes Pine, Oak and Rhododendron trees; terraced fields laden with seasonal fruits and vegetables; and to top it all, a small private perennial natural spring. The estate offers panoramic views of the Himalayas including the majestic Nanda Devi. The estate offers three luxurious, well-appointed rooms and a standalone, two-story cottage. The rooms and the cottage have been painstakingly built in the local stone architecture style.
Cuisine: Expect delicious, well-planned meals. Breakfast is usually a four course affair with fruits and fresh juice, cereals, home-made granola, home-baked bread, choice of egg, Indian main course and tea/coffee. Lunch is a three course Continental meal with salads, dips, breads, main course and a dessert. Dinner is usually an Indian affair where local Kumaoni dishes can also be sampled.
Summer – March to June is summer in Almora. The climate can get quite warm during summer. The maximum temperature that has been recorded is 32°c. Summer nights can be relatively cool with a minimum temperature of 15°c.
Winter – Winter in Almora begins from mid October and continues till mid-March. Winter is very chilly with a maximum temperature of 12°c. On winter nights the temperature can touch sub – zero levels.
Monsoon – Monsoon begins from July and continues till September. Temperatures can get much lower during south-western monsoon with a maximum of 26°c and a minimum of 13°c. There will be heavy rain falls during the second half of the monsoon season.
By Air: Air India flies to Pantnagar from Delhi. From Pantnagar Airport, the property is just 65 kms (2hrs).
By Train: There are daily trains from Delhi to Kathgodam, the rail head nearest to the estate. From Kathgodam, the estate is a 1 hour drive through a picturesque route.
Ranikhet Express departs Old Delhi station at 10:40 pm and arrives at Kathgodam at 05:45 am
Shatabdi express leave New Delhi at 06:10 am and arrives at Kathgodam at 11:40 am.
By Road: The drive from Delhi takes around 7 hours.
THINGS TO DO
Jageshwar: A 45-minute, beautiful drive from the estate, takes you to the Jageshwar temple complex. This mesmerizing complex, set amidst a Cedar forest, comprises about 124 stone temples, dating between the 9th and 13th century AD. Jageshwar is a prominent Hindu pilgrimage site.
Chitai Temple: An hour’s drive from the estate is another famous temple, the Chitai Temple dedicated to Golu Devta, the God of Justice. As one approaches the temple, one is struck by the sight of hundreds of bells hanging at the entrance. Devotees write their wishes on a stamp paper, attach them to a bell and then hang the bell in the temple.
Almora: Located about one-and-a-half hours away from the estate, this hill town is famous for its cobbled stone streets, traditional architecture and old bazaars.
